Richard Nowakowski

Richard Nowakowski, age 92, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 11:40 a.m. in his home.

Richard was born on January 24, 1925 in Tamaroa, a son to Frank and Rose (Kowalski) Nowakowski. He was a veteran of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. On October 25, 1947, he married Louraine Szczeblewski in DuBois, she preceded him in death on November 5, 2007. Richard was a coal miner for Peabody Local 1670 for 18 years. He was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, an avid gardener and loved reading.

Survivors include three sons, Richard A. (Monica) Nowakowski, Roger Nowakowski and Randy Nowakowski (Micky Rivet) all of Pinckneyville; one sister, Eleanor Bronke of Nashville; four grandchildren, Jill (Daron) Fox, Sara (Toby) Dinkelman, Krystal (BJ) Reagan and Robert “Butch” Rivet; and four great-grandchildren, Coy Fox, Rori and Daisy Reagan and Moxie Dinkelman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louraine Nowakowski; three brothers, Leonard Nowakowski, Tom Nowakowski and Sigmund Nowakowski; and one sister, Ann Cholewa.

Funeral services will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Augustine Ibezimako officiating.

Interment will be at St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, with military rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504.

Friends may call at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno Catholic Church or St. Bruno Catholic School.
