Jr. Hornettes Continue Strong Start

The Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornettes team has continued their strong start picking up six wins. The Jr. Hornettes defeated DuQuoin, Sparta, Okawville, Chester, Wesclin, and Pinckneyville. Nashville moved their record to 9-2 this season.
The Jr. Hornettes celebrated the eclipse with a dominating 26-7 win over Pinckneyville on August 21. Nashville scored early and often in the game. Nashville had an offensive expolsion in the first inning as they scored 11 runs to take a commanding lead. Pinckneyville would come back with three runs of their own, to cut into the Jr. Hornettes lead, but Nashville was not done scoring.
Nashville scored another seven runs in the second inning to take an 18-3 lead. Pinckneyville would get four runs in the second but would not score the rest of the way. Nashville scored one run in the third, and put the game away with six runs in the fourth to take the win 26-7.
Annie Ahlers led the way with two hits and a RBI for Nashville. Jordan Donato, Ryan Stiegman, and Emmerson Paszkiewicz each finished with a hit and two RBIs in the win. Daphne Kollbaum and Daci Finke each did not record a hit but finished with two RBIs for the Jr. Hornettes. Alison Maschhoff finished with a RBI in the win, while Emily Guest and Hope Liszewski each had a hit for Nashville.
After weather cancelled the Jr. Hornettes August 22 contest against Centralia, Nashville was back in action against Wesclin on August 23. Again the Jr. Hornettes scored early and often as they shut out Wesclin 12-0 in five innings.
Nashville scored three in the first, five in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the win. Jill Kuhl led the way with three hits and four RBIs in the win. Stiegman also added three hits, and drove in two runs for Nashville. Paszkiewicz drove in two runs, while Kollbaum, Ahlers, and Guest each drove in one. Donato finished with two hits in the win.
The Jr. Hornettes were back in action again on August 24 as they hosted Chester. Nashville took control in the third inning and went on for a 10-2 victory.
The Jr. Hornettes got the scoring started with seven runs in the third. After Chester scored a run in the fourth, Nashville bounced back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Each team traded runs in the fifth to reach the final score of 10-2.
Korbi Rhine led the way with two hits and three RBIs in the win for Nashville. Stiegman and Kuhl each added a RBI in the win. Ahlers and Finke notched the lone other hits for the Jr. Hornettes in the game.
On August 28, the Jr. Hornettes won the battle of Washington County as they defeated Okawville 11-1. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Nashville took control of the game scoring the final 11 runs of the contest. Nashville score four runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth to end the game in five innings.
Eight different players drove in a run for Nashville in the win, with Kollbaum leading the way with three RBIs, Ahlers, Paszkiewicz, Riley Redman, Guest, Liszewski, Kuhl and Finke also drove in runs in the win.
On August 29, the Jr. Hornettes had a completely dominating 20-0 win over Sparta. Nashville scored nine runs in the first, and the game was over from there as the Jr. Hornettes easily came away with the victory. The Jr. Hornettes needed only three innings for the victory.
In the final game of August, Nashville came away with a 9-1 win over conference rival DuQuoin. The Jr. Hornettes took control with three runs in the first and never trailed in the contest. Nashville would add two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth. DuQuoin scored their only run in the fifth. Nashville scored their final run of the game in the sixth.
Ahlers led the way offensively with four RBIs and three hits in the win. Kollbaum scored three runs for the Jr. Hornettes and had two hits and a RBI. Both Kuhl and Stiegman finished with two RBIs while Donato finished with three hits and two runs at the top of the lineup. Guest finished 1-1 in the win.
