Jr. Hornets Win Two Straight

The Nashville Jr. Hornets picked up three wins this past week as they defeated Pinckneyville, and TSJ/St. Ann.

On September 5, the Jr. Hornets beat Pinckneyville 7-1 at home. Pinckneyville got on the board first as they scored their only run in the top of the first, on four walks. Nashville quickly tied the game, as Ian Blazier singled with two outs, stole second and scored on a passed ball.

Nashville broke the game open with five runs in the fifth. Nolan Heggemeier, Blazier, and Michael Combs all reached base, before Kolten Gajewski doubled and cleared the bases. Kaden Gajewski would get a RBI groundout in the frame. Trey Reinburg also had a RBI single in the fifth.  The Jr. Hornets would score their final run of the game in the sixth after Combs singled and later scored on a passed ball.

Bennett Briles was the winning pitcher in the game.

On September 7, the Jr. Hornets picked up a 13-3 win over St. Ann/TSJ.

Nashville got on the board in the first with two runs in the rame. Both Blazier and Combs walked, and stole a base and would eventually come around to score. Blazier would score on a RBI single by Kolten Gajewski, and Combs would score on an error.

In the second the Jr. Hornets made it 6-0 after RBI singles from Heggemeier and Blazier and a two-RBI triple from Combs. Heggmeier, Blazier, Radyn Schwartzkopf, and Blaine Emrick all scored in the inning.

After St. Ann/TSJ made it 6-3 in the top of the third, the Jr. Hornets would come back with three in the bottom half of the inning. Nashville was not done scoring as they made it 10-3 in the fourth, after Kaden Gajewski walked, and courtesy runner Carson Cook scored on a single by Reinburg. Nashville scored two more in the fifth, and another in the sixth for the 13-3 win. Combs got the win, as he did not allow a run in three and a third innings. Blazier ahd four hits, Heggemeier had three hits, and Combs, Kolten Gajewski, and Reinburg each had two hits.
