On Tuesday, September 5 Washington County K-9 Marley was injured in an unfortunate accident.
Marley escaped the control of her handler Deputy Tommy Moss and chased an ATV which ultimately struck her. The incident occurred near Deputy Moss’ residence while both were off duty.
Immediately following the accident Deputy Moss transported Marley to meet with a veterinarian.
While transporting Marley, Deputy Moss struck a deer causing damage to his department issued vehicle. Deputy Moss was not injured. This separate accident occurred in rural St. Clair County and was investigated by the Illinois State Police.
Marley succumbed to her injuries prior to arriving at the veterinarian clinic. Her passing was unrelated to the accident involving the deer.
Due to conflict of interest the Perry County Sheriff’s Office investigated and completed a report regarding the accident involving Marley and the ATV.
The ATV which struck Marley had been operated by a juvenile who sustained non-life threatening injuries. The juvenile was treated at a hospital and released.
