Celebrating Head Start Awareness Month In October
President Ronald Reagan proclaimed October as Head Start Awareness Month.
Since then, our community has been celebrating during the month of October the life-changing impact of Head Start.
A division of Community Link and located in Breese, First Step Early Learning and Family Support Program, offers an Early Head Start Home Visiting program that is dedicated to providing exceptional family-centered services to parents who are expecting a child and to families who have one or more children birth to three years of age.
Children and families enrolled in the First Step program receive services right in their own home!

First Step believes that parents are a child’s first teacher. In this picture, Tasha helps her son, Brayden, create a beautiful flowerpot.
Parent Educators come to the family’s home once a week and work with parents and their children.
Together, the Parent Educator and parents watch and think about the child. They plan ways to help the child learn using parent-child interactions, daily routines, and household materials.
Children and parents enrolled in the program, along with the Parent Educators, get together twice a month for playgroups in surrounding areas.
The First Step program delivers services to children and families in core areas of learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.
Head Start services are delivered nationwide through 1,600 agencies which tailor the federal program to the local needs of families in their service area.
