Jr. Hornettes Win Two Of Three

The Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornettes basketball team has won two of their first three games as they picked up wins over Murphysboro, Centralia. Nashville dropped a contest against Albers. The Jr. Hornettes record is 2-1.
In their first action of the season, the Jr. Hornettes defeated Centralia 42-32. After gaining the early advantage, Nashville fell behind in the middle part of the game, before dominating the fourth quarter and getting the victory.
After the first quarter of play, the Jr. Hornettes led 14-8, but Centralia began to chip away in the second and third quarters. Centralia was able to outscore Nashville 11-9 in the second, but the Jr. Hornettes still held a 23-19 advantage at the break.
In the third, Centralia again outscored Nashville, and was able to take a 31-30 lead into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, Nashville would dominate, outscoring Centralia 12-1 and grabbing the ten point win.
Alyssa Cole led the way for the Jr. Hornettes as the only Nashville player in double figures with 24 points in the win. Daphne Kollbaum added eight points, while Annie Ahlers chipped in six points. Jordan Donato and Ryan Stiegman each had two points to round out the scoring.
Nashville would be back in action on October 26 as they fell to Albers 44-25. The Jr. Hornettes were able to grab a lead early on, but Albers dominated the second half to grab the win.
After one quarter of play Nashville held a slim 7-5 lead, and was able to double the lead in the second quarter. In the second quarter, Nashville again outscored Albers 7-5 and held a 14-10 lead at the break.
It was all Albers in the second half. Albers outscored Nashville 16-6 in the third quarter, and 18-5 in the fourth to go on for a 44-25 win.
Kollbaum led the way with 12 points in the loss, followed by Cole with nine points. Emme Paszkiewicz finished with three points, and Donato finished with one point.
