Jr. Hornettes Win Two Straight

The Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornettes girls basketball team has won their past two contests as they picked up wins over DuQuoin and Pinckneyville. The Jr. Hornettes moved their record to 10-2 on the season.
On November 14, the Jr. Hornettes traveled to DuQuoin for a road showdown. A close game throughout, the Jr. Hornettes were able to pull out the win 34-29.
Nashville jumped out to a seven point lead after the first quarter of play, but saw the lead evaporate in the second quarter. With Nashville up 12-5 at the start of the second, DuQuoin outscored Nashville 11-5 in the frame to cut the Jr. Hornettes lead to 17-16 at the break.
In the third quarter, Nashville regained a bit of breathing room as they took a 26-20 lead into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, Nashville was able to hold onto their lead and grab a 34-29 win.
Alyssa Cole led the Hornettes with 18 points in the win, followed by Daphne Kollbaum with eight points. Hailey Baugh scored six points for Nashville, and Jordan Donato finished with two points.
The Jr. Hornettes were back on their home court on November 16 as they took on Pinckneyville. The Jr. Hornettes used a big third quarter to put away Pinckneyville as they took the game 45-23.
Nashville rushed out to a quick start as they took a 10-4 lead into the second quarter. In the second, the Jr. Hornettes continued to build on their lead, as they were able to extend their lead to 21-12 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Jr. Hornettes put the game away for good as they outscored Pinckneyville 22-3 to take a 43-15 lead into the fourth. In the fourth, Nashville only scored two points, but was never in trouble as the Jr. Hornettes cruised to a 45-23 win.
Emme Paszkiewicz led Nashville with 15 points as one of two players in double figures. Cole finished with 12 points, followed by Kollbaum with six points. Annie Ahlers and Ryan Stiegman each finished with four points, while Baugh and Donato scored two points apiece to round out the scoring.
