The St. Ann Saints boys basketball team split their two contests this past week as they defeated Hoffman before dropping a game to St. Mary Centralia.
The Saints traveled to take on Hoffman on November 14 and picked up a 36-23 win. St. Ann found themselves down 10-8 after one quarter of play, but the defense stepped up in the second. The Saints held Hoffman scoreless in the second quarter, while scoring eight points of their own to take a 16-10 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Saints continued to build on their lead as they outscored Hoffman 12-4 in the third quarter to take a 28-14 lead into the fourth. In the fourth, the Saints were outscored 9-8 but easily took the 16 point win.
Kaden Linkey led the Saints with 10 points in the win as they only St. Ann player in double figures. Evan Kujawa and Adam Anderson each had six points, while Harrison Zgonina, Tommy Herzog, and Thomas Wojtowicz each finished with four points. Kassidy Linkey rounded out the scoring with two points.
In their next game, the Saints hosted St. Mary Centralia on November 16. The Saints could not make a comeback in this one as they dropped the contest 39-23.
The Saints fell behind early as St. Mary Centralia rushed out to a 14-7 lead at the end of the first. In the second the Saints fell further behind as they were outscored 7-2 in the frame and went into the break down 21-9.
The game got away in the third as St. Ann was outscored 18-0 and faced a 39-9 deficit with one quarter to play. In the fourth, St. Ann’s offense came alive, but it was too little too late, as the Saints fell by a score of 39-23.
Kujawa led the Saints with seven points in the loss, followed by Anderson with five. Zgonina and Herzog each finished with four points, and Kaden Linkey added three points to round out the scoring.
