The Southern Illinois Coaches Association announced their All-South teams this past week with a couple Washington County runners receiving the honor. Two Okawville Lady Rockets, and three members of the NCHS Cross Country teams were named All-South. NCHS Cross Country coach Jean Orr was named the SICA Girls Class 1A Coach of the Year.
Senior Brandon Schnitker was named to the SICA Boys Class 1A All-South First-Team. Schnitker capped off his senior season with a 19th place finish at the IHSA Class 1A State Meet in Peoria on November 4. It is the fourth time Schnitker has been named All-South..
Gavin Love was named to the SICA Boys Class 1A All-South Second-Team. Love was named All-Conference this past year for the Hornets.
On the girls side, Jaylyn Bower of Nashville and Madelyn Tepe of Okawville were each named to the SICA Girls Class 1A All-South First Team. Bower was also named All-Conference this past season, as she was the Conference Champion for the SIRR Mississippi Division. Last year Bower was named to the All-South Second Team. Bower finished third at Regionals and seventh at Sectionals this past season, as the Hornettes Cross Country team won their Regional and earned the first Sectional championship in school history on their way to an appearance at the IHSA Class 1A State Meet.
Tepe also advanced to the IHSA Class 1A State Cross Country Meet this past season. Tepe was the runner-up at the IHSA Class 1A Regional in New Athens, and finished sixth overall at the IHSA Class 1A Benton Sectional. Tepe signed to run at McKendree University after high school.
Abby Riechmann of Okawville was named to the SICA Class 1A All-South Second Team. Riechmann was named All-South First-Team last season. This past year Riechmann finished fifth overall at the IHSA Class 1A New Athens Regional.
