Venedy Resident Received GED With Help From Reading Link At Kaskaskia College

Venedy resident Shawnee Bechtoldt recently earned her GED with help from her Reading Link volunteer tutor, Connie Wiese.

Shawnee said, “I feel so much better about myself and receiving this certificate opens doors for so much more in life.  I adore Mrs. Wiese because she was so helpful, she took time out of her day to help me to be successful.”

Shawnee Bechtoldt of Venedy, her two sons Collin and Aiden, and Connie Wiese of Nashville.

Shawnee stated that her husband, Chris has been a supporter.  “He pushed me to do this from day one, he has been my rock.”

Shawnee obtained her GED in early November and completed her application to attend Kaskaskia College soon after.

Her goal is to obtain a degree in Culinary Arts from Kaskaskia College and open her own bakery.

Shawnee concluded by encouraging others to obtain their High School Equivalency certificate.  “It is an incredible feeling to get that certificate.  I cried, I danced, I laughed.  I am so happy.”
