Saints Lose Three Of Four

The St. Ann boys basketball team has lost three of their last for games, as the Saints dropped games against Holy Trinity, Desoto, and St. Andrew, with their only win in the stretch coming against New Horizon.

The Saints were in action on November 20 as they traveled to take on Holy Trinity (Fairview Heights). The Saints fell behind by a large margin in the first quarter, and spent the entire game fighting back, but fell just short of a comeback as Holy Trinity took the 42-36 win.

St. Ann started slow in the contest, as Holy Trinity rushed out to a 19-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. St. Ann chipped away in the second, and cut the deficit to 25-13 at the break. In the third, the Saints got outscored 10-9 and went into the fourth quarter down by 13. The Saints would rally in the fourth, outscoring Holy Trinity 14-7, but Holy Trinity would hold on for the 42-36 win.

St. Ann was led by Adam Anderson, who finished with 12 points in the loss. Kaden Linkey added 10 points, followed by Tommy Herzog and Evan Kujawa with six points apiece. Harrison Zgonina scored two points in the loss.

The Saints were back in action on November 21 ass they hosted New Horizon. A closely contested contest, St. Ann trailed at half, but was able to comeback for the 41-39 win.

New Horizon jumped out to an early lead, but St. Ann stayed right with them, as New Horizon held a 12-11 lead after one. New Horizon was able to gain breathing room in the second as they pushed their lead to six at the break. In the second half, St. Ann came out firing. The Saints outscored New Horizon 12-6 in the third quarter to tie the game going into the final stanza. St. Ann would complete the comeback in the fourth as they outscored New Horizon 10-8 to pick up the 41-39 win.

Linkey led the Saints with 15 points, as one of three players in double figures. Anderson added 13 points, followed by Herzog with 11 points. Zgonina scored two points in the win.

St. Ann picked dropped their next contest to Desoto 39-27 on November 27. St. Ann fell behind in the first, and could never really gain traction as Desoto picked up the 12 point win. Desoto only led by two at the end of the first, but outscored St. Ann 16-7 in the second to take a 22-11 lead into the break. In the third, the Saints fell further behind, as Desoto outscored them 9-4 to take a 31-15 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth, the Saints outscored Desoto 12-8 but it was too little to late as Desoto picked up the 39-27 win.

Kujawa led St. Ann with 10 points, followed by Herzog with nine. Anderson scored two points, while both Zgonina and Linkey scored two points.

St.. Ann was back in action the next day as they suffered a close 41-40 loss to St. Andrew. The Saints jumped out to an early lead, but St. Andrew used a huge second half to take the one point win.

The Saints led 15-8 at the end of the first, and 27-13 at the break. In the second half, St. Andrew took control. St. Andrew outscored the Saints 13-9 in the third quarter, and completed the comeback as they outscored St. Ann 15-4 in the fourth.

Herzog led the Saints with 17 points followed by Linkey with 11 points. Anderson and Kujawa each scored six points in the loss.
