TSJ/ILS Finishes Second At Trinity Lutheran Tip-Off

The TSJ/ILS Lady Titans girls basketball team brought home second place at the Trinity Lutheran Tip-Off. All of the games were played at Metro East Lutheran High School. In the tournament the Lady Titans defeated Mt. Pulaski Zion, Springfield Our Savior, and Kirkwood, but fell to Edwardsville Zion in the Championship game. Leading up to the tournament, the Lady Titans picked up two wins over St. Ann and St. Libory.

On November 21, TSJ/ILS defeated St. Ann 39-37. TSJ/ILS took a 9-4 lead after the first quarter, and led 19-9 at half. In the second half, TSJ/ILS withstood a late rally by St. Ann to take the two point win.

Megan Rennegarbe led the way with 25 points, followed by Cheyenne Boester with six points. Raelyn Obermeier finished with four points, while Halle Rueter added three points. Kris May rounded out the scoring with one point.

The Lady Titans were back in action on November 27, as they defeated St. Libory 51-16. The Lady Titans led 16-6 after the first quarter, and put the game out of reach by outscoring St. Libory 21-2 to take a 37-8 halftime lead. After the break, the Lady Titans continued to dominate as they cruised to victory.

Rueter led TSJ/ILS with 17 points as one of three players in double figures. Rennegarbe finished with 12 points, followed by Boester with 10 points. Obermeier scored seven points in the win, while May scored three points. Mallory Bening rounded out the scoring with two points.

TSJ/ILS then began play in the Trinity Lutheran Tip-Off. The Tournament ran from December 1 to December 3.

The Lady Titans began the tournament with a 38-11 win over Mt. Pulaski-Zion. Rennegarbe led the team with 12 points in the win. Obermeier added 11 points. Boester scored five points, followed by Lauren Rapp with four points. Niedbalski, May, and Rueter each scored two points apiece in the win.

The Lady Titans second round matchup was up against Springfield Our Savior on December 2. TSJ/ILS used a big second and third quarter to take a 37-19 win. The Lady Titans led 9-4 after one quarter of play, but outscored Springfield Our Savior 13-4 in the second quarter to take a 22-8 halftime lead. In the third, the Lady Titans put the game out of reach, as they outscored Springfield Our Savior 13-1 to take a 35-9 leadi into the fourth quarter, In the final quarter of play, TSJ/ILS were outscored 10-2, but cruised to a 37-19 win.

Rennegarbe led the way with 13 points, followed by Obermeier with 11 points. Boester added eight points, and Rueter rounded out the scoring with five points.

The Lady Titans clinched a berth in the championship game with a 30-20 win over Kirkwood. Kirkwood took a 7-3 lead after the first quarter of play, but TSJ/ILS bounced back in the second. The Lady Titans outscored Kirkwood 10-4 in the frame to take a 13-11 halftime lead. In the second half,  In the third, TSJ/ILS was able to gain breathing room as they outscored Kirkwood 8-4 to take a 21-15 lead into the fourth. In the fourth, the Lady Titans extended their lead down the stretch to take the 10 point win.

Rennegarbe scored 14 points to lead TSJ/ILS in the win. Rueter added seven points, while Obermeier scored five points. Boester scored two points for the Lady Titans in the win.

In the championship game, TSJ/ILS fell to Belleville Zion 36-23. Belleville Zion took a 10=7 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Titans battled back to tie the game at 16 at halftime. In the second half, Belleville Zion took over. Belleville Zion outscored the Lady Titans 8-2 in the third, and 12-5 in the fourth to take the win.

Obermeier led the way with eight points, followed by Rennegarbe with five points. Rueter and Boester each scored four points, and Niedbalski scored two points.
