Where Is ‘It Happened Here’ ?

“It Happened Here” and the Local History Page is a popular part of The Nashville News and when it isn’t present, readers tend to ask why.

“It Happened Here” is actually copied every week from the very same feature five years previous.

The only changes that we make are to the headings for each given year, say “Seventy Years Ago” to “Seventy-Five Years Ago”.

We then summarize the news in that five year old paper and add that as the newest year’s entry – “Five Years Ago”, 2012 for right now.

The issue this week is that for some reason, there wasn’t an “It Happened Here” in the December 12, 2012 edition of The Nashville News.

We could have taken the “It Happened Here” text from the December 19, 2012, paper (we checked, “It Happened Here” returned in the very next paper), but then we wouldn’t have it for next week.

We will have “It Happened Here” back in the December 20, 2017 edition of The Nashville News and we will have an addition to the “Five Years Ago” section with the news added from the December 12, 2012 newspaper, as well as the regular headlines and information from the December 19, 2012 edition.

All of this will assuredly come up again around the second week of December, 2022, when both The Nashville News staff and readers will likely again wonder, what happened to “It Happened Here”?
