Mrs. Esther B. Palek of Nashville, departed this life at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, on Monday, January 1, 2018 at 12:23 A.M. She had attained the age of 89 years and 22 days.
Esther was born on December 10, 1928 in Okawville, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Engele) Brammeier. She was united in marriage to Donald O. Palek on October 18, 1947 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville, and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1997.
Esther worked at the Washington County Highway office for many years, until her retirement. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Esther served many years as the chairperson for UNICEF. She enjoyed cooking, dancing and playing cards with her group of friends
Left to mourn her passing are her four children, Donna Keen and her husband Dave of Mt. Vernon, Ann Leadendecker and her husband Philip of Venedy, Terry Palek and his wife Rebecca of Madison, Ala., and Sherry Kraus and husband Keith of Glen Carbon; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Palek of Columbia, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Andrea (Greg) Phillips, Jodi (Lucas) Holloway, Jenna (Dylan) Borrenpohl, Cooper and Carter Palek and Sophie and Sarah Kraus; a sister, Marie Kolweier of Okawville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Charles Palek, a brother and sister in infancy; a brother, Vernon Brammeier; two sisters, Amanda Engelmann and Elenora Moehlenkamp.
Funeral service will be held at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor Beverly Kahle officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.
Friends may call at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville on Wednesday from 9 A.M. until the service hour.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Okawville Senior Center Meals on Wheels or the St. Paul United Church of Christ and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
