Kaskaskia College Faculty, Staff And Students Donate To Overseas Military Soldiers
The Kaskaskia College’s TRiO, Veterans, BASIC, and Criminal Justice Clubs joined together for a great cause as they collected specific items for “Stockings for Soldiers” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers”.
Throughout the semester, students and employees collected hygiene products, and other needed personal items along with certain foods to place in Christmas stockings.
On Monday, November 20, several students from the clubs came together to place the collected items into the Christmas stockings and 257 stuffed stockings were put together for our overseas military personnel!
The groups also collected 127 deactivated cellular devices for another project entitled, “Cell Phones for Soldiers”. The cell phones will be sent to the “Helping Heroes Home” organization where they will be sold to a recycling company. The money collected from the phones will purchase calling cards and sent to overseas military personnel so they can call home to their loved ones.
The stockings and cellular phones were delivered to the local drop-off hub, Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home of Centralia, who will now send the stockings and cellular phones to the parent distribution centers. Each year Sutherland Funeral Home accepts product and monetary donations for the annual events. Outside the received monetary donations from the community, they take-on the expense of shipping the stockings and cellular phones.
