Jr. Hornettes Close Out Regular Season

The Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornettes girls basketball team finished out the regular season with games against Trico, Salem and Chester. The Jr. Hornettes finished out the season with a record of 19-4. Nashville will begin play in Regionals on Wednesday night. The Jr. Hornettes first game of the postseason is against Breese on January 10 at 7:15 p.m.
The Jr. Hornettes kicked off the new year, with a game against Trico on January 4. The Jr. Hornettes took control early, and went on for a 33-19 win.
Nashville got off to a quick start as the Jr. Hornettes held a 14-2 lead after one quarter of play. In the second, the Jr. Hornettes extended their lead and took a 21-6 lead at the break.
In the third, Trico made a run to cut Nashville’s lead to 25-14 with one quarter to play. In the fourth, Trico could not complete a comeback as Nashville grabbed a 33-19 win.
Alyssa Cole led Nashville with 17 points in the win. Emme Paszkiewicz added four points, followed by Daphne Kollbaum and Hope Liszewski with three points. Daci Finke, Jordan Donato, and Annie Ahlers all finished with two points in the win.
Nashville was back in action on January 6 as they traveled to take on Salem. The Jr. Hornettes scored early and often as they easily grabbed a 55-15 win.
Nashville got the early lead, as the Jr. Hornettes outscored Salem 14-4 in the first. In the second, Nashville extended their lead over Salem and took a 31-11 lead into the locker rooms. The second half was more of the same, as Nashville outscored Salem 24-4 in the second half to take a 55-15 win.
The Jr. Hornettes finished with two players in double figures. Cole led the way with 17 points, followed by Paszkiewicz with 12 points. Ahlers finished with eight points, while Finke scored six points. Donato and Baylie Newman each finished with five points. Kollbaum rounded out the scoring with two points.
The Jr. Hornettes finished out the regular season with a win over Chester on January 8. The Jr. Hornettes steadily built their lead throughout the contest as they took a 41-25 win.
Nashville led by just one after the first quarter with an 8-7 lead, but outscored Chester 9-2 in the second to take a 17-9 halftime advantage.  In the third, the Hornettes were able to maintain their lead as they led 30-22 with one quarter to play. The Jr. Hornettes then dominated the fourth quarter, as they outscored Chester 11-3 to close out the victory.
Cole led the way with 17 points, followed by  Newman with 10 points. Kollbaum finished with four points in the win while, Emily Guest and Donato each scored three points. Finke and Ahlers rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
