Mrs. Peggy Jo Jones of Nashville, departed this life in Nashville on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 12:10 P.M. She had attained the age of 75 years, 4 months and 20 days.
Peggy was born on August 18, 1942 in Centralia, the daughter of Gerald and Opal (Garland) Spencer. She was united in marriage to David L. Jones on October 3, 1964 in Edwardsville, and he preceded her in death on December 3, 2000.
Peggy graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington, with a Bachelors and Masters in Education. She started teaching in Springfield, and then in Southern California. She later moved to Nashville, where she taught for 47 years, until her retirement. Peggy was a member of the Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed flowers and loved playing the piano and going out with her Aunt Myrt Oexeman. Peggy’s passion was spending time with her grandkids and family.
Left to mourn her passing is her son Derek Jones and wife Melissa of St. Charles, Mo.; two daughters, Joy Lescher and husband Todd of Carlyle, and Amanda Jo Jones of Nashville; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Stambaugh and wife Danielle, Destiny Stambaugh, Michael Peak, Andrew Peak, Allana Jones, Brogan Jones and Brody Jones; a great grandson, Leland Stambaugh; two brothers, Bob Spencer and wife Brenda of Nashville and Jerry Spencer and wife Ellen of Glen Carbon; a sister, Carmalee Johnson and husband Dick of Timewell; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Per the wishes of Peggy and her family, cremation was performed and a celebration of life service will be held at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 6 P.M. with Pastor Jeff Schwab officiating.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 P.M. until the service hour.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Nashville Public Library or the Nashville District #49 Title I Reading Program and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
