Mr. Rodney George Boruff of Okawville, departed this life at his residence surrounded by family on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 10:20 A.M., a mere eight days after losing his beloved wife Frannie. He had attained the age of 84 years, 5 months and 7 days.
Rodney was born in Joy, on August 7, 1933 the son of Martin and Irene (nee Dodson) Boruff. He was united in marriage to Frances Duncan on May 23, 1953 in Millersburg, and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2018.
Mr. Boruff worked as a supervisor at Con Tel, retiring after 39 years of service. He served in the United States Army at Fort Campbell, Ky., as a driver for the base General. He was a former member of the Aledo First Baptist Church and after moving to Okawville he joined the Okawville Baptist Church. He was currently a member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville. Rodney possessed a beautiful singing voice and sang in the St. Peter’s Church Choir as well as singing for weddings, funerals and other special occasions. Rodney served on the Okawville Village Board and later served three terms as the Okawville Village President and was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Okawville Senior Center. He was a former member of the Okawville Lions Club and the Okawville Community Club as well as being a member of American Legion Post #233 of Okawville. Rodney lived an active lifestyle and loved camping, hunting and especially fishing. It was said that he could catch a fish in the middle of the street. He also enjoyed playing softball, ping pong and bowling.
Left to mourn his passing are four children, Rick Boruff and wife Lori of Aledo, Shelly Oltmann and husband Brad of Nashville, Shannon Boruff and wife Stacey of Bartelso, and Shawna Reed and husband Robert of Kenton, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Rye Alan Boruff, Rusty Lee Boruff and wife Brook, Nicholas Stine, Christopher Stine, Coty Boruff, Dalton Boruff, Cassidy Mueting and husband Nathan and Novella Cowan; five step grandchildren, Paige and Karlee Oltmann, Mary Beth Riley and husband Jimmy, and Erin and David Reed; six great grandchildren, Tannen, Ezekiel, Noah, Charlie, Nicolas and Oliver; a sister, Esther Ricketts of Trenton, Mo.; several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Gary Boruff.
In accordance with the wishes of Rodney and his family, cremation was performed.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 1 P.M. until 4 P.M. immediately followed by a memorial prayer service at 4 P.M. conducted by Pastor Jeffrey Schwab.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family Hospice of Belleville or to the Okawville Senior Center and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
