Mrs. Mary Going of Plum Hill, IL departed this life in the Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Nashville, IL on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 12:36 P.M. She had attained the age of 71 years, 3 months and 28 days.
Mary was born in Alton, IL on September 21, 1946 the daughter of Charles and Hazel (nee Patton) Palek. She was united in marriage to Ronald Going in the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oakdale, IL on June 13, 1970 and he survives her passing.
Mary was a 1964 graduate of Roxanna High School and in 1968 she received her Bachelor Degree in Education from McKendree College in Lebanon, IL. Mrs. Going taught in the Wesclin School District for five years before coming to Okawville High School where she taught English and German and was affectionately known as “Frau” to her students. She continued her teaching career at Okawville High School until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Plum Hill where she had previously served on the church council. She was also a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association, was a 4H leader for several years and served on the Okawville Fair Parade committee for nearly 40 years, many of which were as chairperson. Mrs. Going was an avid reader and she enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Ronald Going of Plum Hill; two sons, Timothy Going of Texarkana, TX and Benjamin Going and wife Kimberly of Plum Hill; three grandchildren, Kylie, Jaelyn and Sophia Going; a brother-in-law, Robert Going and wife Sharon of Plum Hill; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Rogers and husband John of Godfrey, IL and Jo Ann Going of Addieville, IL; two nephews, Bradley Going and John Rogers and wife Whitney; a niece, Janel Shelby and husband Brian; several cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Erwin and Regina Going; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Going; and a nephew, Matthew Going.
Funeral Services will be held from the St. John United Church of Christ in Plum Hill on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Don Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Monday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and again on Tuesday from 8 A.M. until 9 A.M. then at the church on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund or to the St. John United Church of Christ Sunday School and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
