Mrs. Gertrude Toensing of Okawville, departed this life in the Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Nashville, on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 8:45 A.M. She had attained the age of 94 years, 5 months and 29 days.
Gertrude was born in Okawville Twp., Washington County, on July 23, 1923 the daughter of Fred and Alvina (nee Middendorf) Going. Gertie was united in marriage to Amos Toensing at Olive Branch on October 29, 1949 and he preceded her in death on September 25, 1987.
Gertie was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville. Gertie worked as a sewing machine operator at Curley Clothing. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and going on walks.
Left to mourn her passing is a brother, Norman Going and wife Marie of Belleville; a nephew; a niece; a sister-in-law, Florence Going of Okawville; other relatives and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Going; a sister, Laurette Lehde and husband Harry; a nephew; a half-sister, Laura Holle; and two half-brothers, Harry Going and the Rev. Walter Going.
Funeral services will be held from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Eric Wood officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Tuesday from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 8 A.M. until 9 A.M. then at the church on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to KFUO Radio and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
