The Nashville Hornettes girls basketball program has another member of the 1000 point club. A couple weeks after Senior Karly Stanowski joined the club, senior Paige Kasten also reached the milestone. Kasten, who already holds the Nashville Hornettes record for 3 pointers in a season, and a career, now has another accolade. Kasten reached the mark at the free throw line in the second quarter of the Hornettes 54-51 win over Carterville. Kasten finished with 18 points in the win.
After the game, Kasten said she didn’t want to know how close she was. “I didn’t want to know about scoring 1000 points. I told everyone not to tell me when it was going to be. It happens, it’s a good accomplishment, but I’m just happy we won.”
Kasten went on to say as she went to the free throw line, she knew she needed to make them, but 1000 points wasn’t as important as getting the win. “Yeah, cause Karly kind of told me. I was just thinking, I was gonna get this past, get this over with and move on and get a conference championship hopefully.”
Hornettes coach Doug Althoff, praised Kasten for the accomplishment after the game. “She’s a great player. Her and Karly. Rachael is right there too. Those seniors I got, I think the world of them, and I get on them, but I will say this. They will go through a wall for me. Those three seniors, and my whole team, will just go through a wall for me, and I think the world of all my kids, and that’s what it is all about. I’m happy for Paige its a great accomplishment for her.”
Kasten did not want the game to be about her and summed up the game with one sentence. “It was a nice team effort tonight.”
