The TSJ/ILS 7th Grade girls basketball team came away with first place from the Central City Tournament. TSJ/ILS defeated Willow Grove/St. Mary’s, Sandoval and Woodlawn on their way to the championship. The Tournament was played from January 22 to January 24.
TSJ/ILS began the tournament with a win over Willow Grove/St. Mary’s on January 22. The TSJ/ILS got the lead early and never looked back as they defeated Willow Grove/St. Mary’s 34-10.
The TSJ/ILS got off to a great start as they outscored Willow Grove/St. Mary’s 15-0 in the first quarter of play. After each team scored two points in the second, TSJ/ILS held a 17-2 halftime lead.
TSJ/ILS extended their lead in the third quarter, and took a 25-8 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Titans were able to cruise to a 34-10 win.
Megan Rennegarbe led TSJ/ILS with 13 points in the win. Kris May and Raelyn Obermeier each finished with eight points, followed by Nora Wood with four points. Mallory Bening finished with one point in the win.
TSJ/ILS played their next game of the tournament against Sandoval on January 23. TSJ/ILS fell behind in the first half, and made a huge rally in the second half to come away with a 41-39 win.
TSJ/ILS fell behind 10-7 after the first quarter of play, and trailed 22-17 at halftime. TSJ/ILS picked up the defensive intensity in the third quarter. TSJ/ILS outscored Sandoval 7-2 in the third to tie the game at 24 going into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter of play, both offenses came alive. The two teams combined for 32 points in the quarter. TSJ/ILS scored 17 points in the frame to take the two point win over Sandoval.
Rennegarbe led the way with 22 points in the win. Obermeier added 13 points while Bening scored four points. May rounded out the scoring with two points.
The win over Sandoval put TSJ/ILS in the championship game against Woodlawn on January 24. TSJ/ILS had a great first half on their way to a 29-14 win.
TSJ/ILS took control of the game in the first half. TSJ/ILS outscored Woodlawn 6-2 in the first and 8-2 in the second to take a 14-4 lead into the break. TSJ/ILS extended their lead in the third as they outscored Woodlawn 6-3 and held a 20-7 lead as the teams went to the fourth. In the fourth, TSJ/ILS outscored Woodlawn 9-7 as they took the 29-14 win and the tournament championship.
Rennegarbe led the way with 13 points. Obermeier added nine points, followed by Rapp with four. May scored two points, and Kyley Kwiatkowski scored one point to round out the scoring.
