January 3, 2018 Classic Photo (Part 2):
Time For A Good Book…

The Nashville News already heard back about the January 3, 2018 Classic Photo, which featured a pair of boys, holding up books, along with a pair of women behind them, and another woman behind a counter.
The photo looked like it was taken at a library and the person who contacted us was retired Nashville Librarian Katy Briles, who identified the boy and woman towards the center as St. Ann Student Alan Czajkowski and St. Ann teacher Celeste Buescher. At the right of the photo, Briles identified her predecessor, Nashville Librarian Millie Schuetz.
We now have some more information about the photo, thanks to Sharon Michael, now living in Flower Mound, Texas, including the identity of the boy pictured on the left side of the photo, the late Chad Michael, her son.
Sharon also told us what the photo was taken for. Every year, the schools would have their students take part in a contest, at least Nashville Public School, where Chad was a student, and St. Ann School, since they are both pictured here.
Students at the schools would be given a book, and inside the book was pictures, but no words (Sharon recalled this when she saw the title of Chad’s book, “The Christmas Kitten”). The students then would come up with their own stories and the best story in school would win the contest. Sharon said that she remembered working with Chad to come up with his story.
The year this photo was taken, 1972 or 1973, Chad would have been in third or fourth grade, said Sharon, and he and Alan were that year’s winners. Sharon did not recall the name of the lady behind Chad, but says that given that the lady behind Alan is a teacher, she suspected it was the English or Reading teacher from Chad’s school.
