Bernice A. Engelmann

Miss. Bernice Engelmann of Albers, departed this life at the Washington County Hospital Extended Care in Nashville, on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 8:40 A.M. She had attained the age of 90 years and 7 months.
Miss. Engelmann was born on July 19, 1927 in Washington County, the daughter of William and Minnie (nee Kraus) Engelmann. Bernice was baptized at her house on August 14, 1927 and she was confirmed on April 6, 1941.
Bernice worked at the Famous and Barr store in St. Louis, Mo., and Fairview Heights, for 48 ½ years, until her retirement. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville, where she taught Sunday school for 70 years and served as the Sunday school superintendent. She also served on the Zion United Church of Christ Draw Down Committee, president of the Women’s Guild and she sang in the choir. Bernice was the past president of the Fleur De Lis Association and a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Washington County Association for Home and Community Education.
Left to mourn her passing is her brother, William Engelmann and wife Joyce of Centralia; a sister-in-law, Marie Engelmann of Nashville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Engelmann; a sister, Marjorie Backs; two nieces, Peggy and Linda Backs and a brother-in-law, Milton Backs.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Bill Groennert officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville on Saturday from 9 AM until the service hour.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ, Zion Sunday School, St. Louis Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
