Hornets Finish Third In Murphysboro Tournament

The Nashville Hornets sophomore boys basketball team finished up their season this past week with a third place finish at the Murphysboro Tournament. The Hornets ended the season with a 15-3 record overall. In addition to the third place finish in Murphysboro, the Hornets also brought home a second place finish in the Sparta Tournament.
In the Murphysboro Tournament, Nashville defeated Sesser, Herrin, and DuQuoin. The only loss for the Hornets in the tournament came to Central on a last second shot.
Nashville began the tournament with a 48-36 win over Sesser. Terry Pelczynski Jr. was the leading scorer for Nashville in the contest with 28 points.
In the Hornets second game of the tournament, Nashville came away with a 44-30 win over Herrin. Tristen Hercules was the leading scorer for Nashville in the win with 16 points. Pelczynski added 14 points for the Hornets.
Nashville’s lone loss of the tournament came against Central. The Hornets and Cougars were tied late but a last second basket gave Central a 31-29 win. Pelczynski scored 17 and Hercules scored seven in the loss.
Nashville moved onto the third place game where the Hornets dominated DuQuoin for a 63-33 win to bring home the third place trophy. Pelczynski led Nashville with 27 points in the third place game.
Pelczynski was named All Tournament First Team. Hercules was named All Tournament Special Mention.
