Kaskaskia College CTE Instructors Visit Students And Parents At Okawville High School
Kaskaskia College Career and Technical faculty visited with Okawville High School seniors and their parents to give them some resources before graduation to help guide them toward making a career choice.
The students, selected by Guidance Counselor Mrs. Tricia Schleifer and Principal Mr. Keith Senior, felt these students were not 100% sure of their plans after high school graduation, and felt these presentations by the KC faculty and KC Director of Student Engagement, Amy Troutt would give them some insight as to the offerings in the career and technical field.
KC faculty who attended were Rob Jervis, Drafting and Architectural Design; Mark Kohnen, Heating and Air Conditioning; Charles DeBernardi, Auto Repair Technology; Lyle Gross, Industrial Technology; and Corey Wellen, Welding.
Principal Senior said, “Okawville High School is very appreciative of the interest that Kaskaskia College has shown in helping young adults realize the career opportunities that are available in our local economy. Thank you to the Kaskaskia College CTE staff for going above and beyond to help put our students on the right track to getting the skills needed to help them become successful adults.”
HVAC Professor Mark Kohnen feels that the evening was a success. “All instructors who attended spoke of the need for skilled workers in the trades. We each talked about our programs and the rewarding pay due to the lack of workers. Employers are calling us (the instructors) often for skilled employees. We have the employers, we need the students!”
George Evans, KC President says, “We appreciate the invitation from Principal Keith Senior to speak with the Okawville students and their parents. Mr. Senior truly has the best interests of his students at heart and we are very grateful for him to invite us to explain the vocational career training opportunities that Kaskaskia College has to offer.”
