Thorson Breaks School Record As Jr. Hornettes Track Team Begins Season

It’s been a busy week to the Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornettes track season with two meets under their belt. On April 9, the Jr. Hornettes hosted a four team track meet. Nashville then traveled to the Pinckneyville 204 Invitational, where 24 teams competed.
On April 9, Okawville, NMS, Centralia, and St. Ann all squared off in the Jr. Hornettes first home meet of the season. Nashville took home first place with 85 points, 30 points ahead of second place Centralia. Okawville finished third, while St. Ann finished fourth.
Six Jr. Hornettes brought home first place finishes at the meet. Alyssa Cole won the shot put with a throw of 28’1”. Long Jump was won by Hope Liszewski with a jump of 14’7”. The 4X200M Relay team of Shelby Thorson, Ella Reed, Korbi Rhine, and Baylie Newman crossed the line first with a time of 2:00.5. Thorson would then go on to win the 7th grade 100M dash with a time of 13.8. Daci Finke finished first in the 1600M run with a time of 6:13, and the final first place finish was Hailey Baugh in the 800M run with a time of 2:52.
On April 13, the Jr. Hornettes competed in the Pinckneyville 204 Invitational, which featured 24 teams. St. Bruno took home first place, followed by DuQuoin in second place. Nashville brought home third place.
The Jr. Hornettes only had one first place finish as Thorson broke a school record in the 7th Grade 100M Dash. Thorson finished with a time of 13.0.
Daci Finke had the only second place finish for Nashville in the 1600M Run. The Jr. Hornettes had three third place finishes. Baugh in the 800M Run, the 4X200M Relay team of Thorson, Reed, Newman, and Rhine, and the 4X400M Relay team of Newman, Finke, Rhine, and Baugh all finished in third place.
