NASHVILLE OPTIMIST CLUB COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

This award requires applicants to fill out a short application as well as answer a short essay question on how your involvement in community service has affected you and the community around you. To pick up a copy of this scholarship application, please visit the guidance office. Deadline for returning this application to the guidance office is April 26, 2018.

LON MCHANEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Two $200 Scholarships)

This scholarship is available to all high school seniors looking to enroll at an accredited two/four year university, trade, or vocational school. Applicants themselves need to be a member or have a parent/guardian who is a member of the Kaskaskia Valley Community Credit Union. Applicants need to show that they have maintained a “B” average or better for the first seven semesters of high school and have shown positive leadership and character in school and out. To pick up a copy of this scholarship, please visit the guidance office. Deadline for this scholarship is April 27, 2018.

ARCH CITY GRANITE & MARBLE INC. SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000)

Applicants must be high school seniors from Missouri or Southern Illinois. Preference will be given to those with financial need. Deadline for filling out the application is April 30, 2018. To learn more, click https://www.archcitygranite.com/scholarship/

KIDS’ CHANCE INC. OF ILLINOIS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship opportunity is open to those students who have had a parent seriously injured or killed in a work related accident and this has led to financial need for the family. If you meet this criteria, please visit https://www.kidschanceofillinois.com/scholarships.html for more information and to find the application. Deadline for this scholarship is April 30, 2018.

SIGMA PHI EPSILON BALANCED MAN SCHOLARSHIP (Three $1,750 Scholarships)

Applicants for this scholarship must be males that will be full-time students at the University of Illinois in the fall of 2018. This scholarship is to be awarded to applicants that excel in the areas of scholarship, leadership, athletics, and community service. This scholarship in no way obligates you to join the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. REBECCA RENCH SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a NCHS senior. The applicant must enroll in an education degree program. A preference is given to those with a concentration in English or communications. The application is available in the counseling office and need to be returned by May 15, 2018.

ILLINOIS SOCIETY WAR OF 1812 CHARLES SCHWEIZER HISTORY ESSAY CONTEST ($1,000)

Applicants must complete a 800-1200 word essay with a topic pertaining to the War of 1812. This essay must include 5 sources with at least three of these being book sources. For more details on the requirements for this essay, go to http://illinois1812warsociety.org/contest%20rules.pdf or come to the guidance office for a copy of the rules. The deadline for the completion of this essay is May 31, 2018.

WOMEN IN HVACR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (Four $2,000 Scholarships)

This scholarship is open to females who are interested in education leading to a possible HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) career. This includes those wanting to go to a trade school or technical college and those interested in getting a 4 year degree. Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA or higher and must complete a 500 word essay on the topic of going into the HVACR industry. UNITED ENERGY WORKERS EEOICPA SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000)

Applicants must be high school seniors that have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must also be pursuing a career in the healthcare field. For more information or to find the application, go to https://www.uewhealth.com/eeoicpa-reca/#scholarship-application. Deadline to apply is July 31, 2018.

FAFSA Notice For Juniors And Their Parents

Attention Junior Parents: Important information concerning financial aid for college: You are able and encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting October 1st. for your college-bound student. 2017 income tax information will be used to complete this process. The FAFSA enables students who qualify to receive federal and state grants, scholarships, as well as to participate in work-study programs. The best way to apply is for students and parents to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you have any questions concerning the FAFSA, you may contact the counseling office or the financial aid office of the college you plan to attend.

ACT/SAT Tests

ACT Testing Dates: The next ACT test with open registration is June 9. Registration is due by May 4. An additional ACT testing date is July 14. Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date. Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.
