Leah Queen, age 85, of Nashville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Nashville.
Leah was born on October 8, 1932 in Perry County, a daughter to Louis and Anna (Weil) Hottes. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 21 at Holts Prairie Baptist Church in rural Pinckneyville, and was baptized soon after. She married Earl E. Queen on June 7, 1952 in Perry County, and he preceded her in death on December 5, 2008 after 56 years of marriage. Leah was a member of the First Baptist Church, Nashville. She enjoyed teaching 4 and 5 year olds in Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for 44 years. She enjoyed working as a nurse at Washington County Hospital for 25 years and also worked at Friendship Manor Nursing Home for a short period. Her family was her joy.
Survivors include her three children, Jeanne Gonzales of Nashville, Jack (Debra) Queen of DuQuoin, and Jane (Jeff) Schleifer of Noblesville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Tim (Nikki) Groff, Shawn Groff (friend, Melissa Flowers), Abijah (Holly) Queen, Andy Schleifer and Sara Schleifer; seven great-grandchildren, Bella Womack, Ayca Groff, Kira Groff, Chloe Halterman, Israel Queen, Isaac Queen and Christian Queen; two brothers, Louis (Pam) Hottes and Scott (Leah) Hottes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; and her church family at First Baptist Church, Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Queen; a brother, Harvey Hottes; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hottes; and a brother-in-law, Ernest Queen.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Holts Prairie Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, Nashville, or the Baptist Children’s Home, Carmi.
