Hornettes Finish Second At NIT

The NCHS Hornettes track team’s bid for a three peat at the NIT was dashed this past week, as Freeburg took the crown at the Girls Nashville Invitational Track Meet. Eighteen schools vied for the crown. Freeburg finished with 86 points in first place. Nashville brought home second place with 72 points. Althoff was the third place team with 64 points.
Two Hornettes finished first place in their event at the track meet. Josie Middleton won the Discus with a throw of 106’5”. Sydney Schnitker broke her own record in the triple jump with a jump of 35’4.75” in route to a first place finish.
Jadah Heidel finished second in the 100M Hurdles, and the 300M Hurdles at the meet. The 4x800M team of Kylie Kozuszek, Grace Maschhoff, Kiley Heidel, and Sabrina Kollbaum finished four seconds behind New Athens to claim second place.
Kortney Stroud finished third in the Discus to round out the Nashville medalists.
Okawville finished ninth at the track meet. Madelyn Tepe won the 800M run with a time of 2:21.30, and won the 1600M run with a time of 5:30.39.
The Hornettes will be back in action on Thursday for the SIRR Conference Meet at West Frankfort. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. weather permitting.
