2018 Kids Fishing Derby

ABOVE, Colt Wilkey shows off both a bluegill and a catfish he caught.

Sunday, May 5, marked the 45th annual kids fishing derby, held at Memorial Park in Nashville and sponsored by the Washington county Sportsmens Club. The event is put on with the help of numerous volunteers from the sportsmens club, members of Squadron 110 of the Sons of the American Legion, who provide refreshments and lunch to the little fishermen and women, and to many donors who made gifts of either fishing equipment for prizes, money to help buy prizes or pay for incidentals, or of baskets or other gifts for raffles or auctions.

The grand prize winners this year included, ABOVE, FROM RIGHT, Jaylin Stofferahn, bluegill, 8 1/2 inches, Grady Varel, catfish, 22 3/4 inches, and BELOW, Hailie Hamilton, catfish, 22 7/8 inches (discovered following the winners’ announcement for Stofferahn and Varel).
