NMS To IGSMA State Solo And Ensemble Contest
Saturday, May 5, eight Nashville Middle School band students were selected to compete at Illinois Grade School Music Association District 4 State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Carbondale.
These students competed at District competition back in March this year and scored high enough on their solos to qualify for State contest.

Students are listed left to right. Jill Kuhl: Trumpet- 1st place. Zoe Lopez: Trombone- 1st place. Garrett Williamson: Piano- 1st Superior. Ethan Gambill: Clairnet- 1st Superior. Trent Browne: Piano- 1st Superior. Paige Greten: Clarinet- 1st place. Emma Grathwohl: Piano- 1st place and Flute- 1st Superior. Faith Frerker: Saxophone- 1st place.
To qualify for State, students must perform a solo at District contest that is graded A, B, or C (harder solos) and they must receive at 1st place rating.
NMS took nine solo entries to State contest. Five solos received a first place rating, and four received a first Superior (perfect score, highest possible) rating!
