Shrew Taming…Or Shrew Lassoing?
Stone Soup Shakespeare, now in its eighth season, brought this year’s play, “The Taming of the Shrew” to the “stage” at the pavilion across the creek at Memorial Park on the evening of Thursday, May 10.
The pre-performance square dance was open to any brave enough.
Their take on “Taming” was a distinctly western one, with cowboy hats, whooping and hollering, a combination of western twangs and 1500s English vocabulary, and even a square dance.
Kate, played by Julia Stemper, is not a fan of Petruchio, played by Ross Frawley.
The performance was sponsored by the Washington County Arts Council and the Nashville Public Library (with the aid of numerous other local sponsors).
Much like traditional Shakespearian performances which were shown “in the round”, the audience could take a seat where ever they liked to see “the Taming of the Shrew.”
