FFA Public Speakers recently won many honors while competing at the District V Public Speaking Contest at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The contest has four categories which speakers can compete in: Varsity Prepared, JV Prepared, Varsity Extemporaneous, and JV Extemporaneous.
As the name implies, prepared speaking requires presenting a 6-8 minute speech from memory that was prepared before the contest.
The extemporaneous contest requires the participant to draw an agricultural topic and prepare a 3-5 minute speech in 30 minutes.
In Varsity Extemporaneous, Austin Schorfheide placed first.
For JV Prepared, Aden Hill placed third.
Austin will now advance to the State contest on June 12.
