Malawy Wins Number 500

Unbelievable. Just one word to sum up NCHS Hornets Baseball Coach Chad Malawy’s 500th career head coaching win. Down, 8-1 in the third inning, the Hornets stormed back to defeat Harrisburg 10-9 for Malawy’s 500th head coaching win at NCHS.
Malawy began his head coaching career at NCHS as the head coach of the NCHS Hornettes Softball team. Malawy won 156 games for the Hornettes, which is second most all time to Dempsey Witte. Malawy won the 2001 IHSA Class A State Championship while coaching the Hornettes. When Malawy left the Hornettes in 2004, he was the all-time leader in head coaching wins. Malawy had a record of 156-27 with the Hornettes.
Malawy took over the head coaching duties for the Hornet baseball team in 2005. Malawy has now led the Hornets to 344 wins as head coach. Malawy is the winningest coach in Hornet baseball history, as he passed David Vieth during the 2017 season. Malawy has led the Hornets to back to back 30 win seasons.
As for his 500th win, Malawy said “I’ve had a lot of great players, and that is all wins is is great players that buy into the program and what you are trying to do. I couldn’t be happier and thankful to the Hornet family that I have had for 20+ years.”
