Head On Crash Near Scheller Injures Two

At approximately 10:20 p.m., Saturday, June 16, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a multi vehicle head on crash on IL Highway 148 near E. Emerson City Rd., Scheller.
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Ina Police Department, Illinois State Police, Waltonville Fire Department, Sesser Fire Department, and Littons Ambulance Service located a white Hyundai off the west side of the roadway and a silver mustang in the middle of the southbound lanes.
Driver of the Hyundai, Felicia Smith, 21 years old along with a passenger, Ethan Cook, 22 years old from Odin, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon where they were airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital. A second passenger, a two year old juvenile, who appeared to be uninjured was transported to a local hospital by family members.
Driver of the Mustang, William Chaffin, 44 years old from Scheller, was treated for injuries at the scene. Chaffin was cited for Text/Talk while operating a motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and improper lane usage.
Investigation into the crash continues.
