Arson “Dude” Fuqua

Mr. Arson “Dude” Fuqua of Oakdale,  departed this life at Friendship Manor Healthcare Center in Nashville, IL on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 11:20 PM.  He had attained the age of 94 years, 3 months and 17 days.
He was born on April 9, 1924 in Springerton, IL the son of Arthur and Effie (nee Woodrow) Fuqua.  He was united in marriage on December 17, 1946 to Darleen “Dolly” Wisely and she survives his passing.
Dude served as a Corporal in the Army Air Corps during WWII in France and Germany.  Upon returning home he and Dolly married and began farming.  They eventually settled in Elkton, IL where he continued to farm and worked at the General Motor’s plant in St. Louis, MO.  Upon his retirement he continued to farm and built a new house.  In his latter years he worked in his woodshop making gifts for friends and family.  He was a faithful member of Marissa Presbyterian Church.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Dolly Fuqua of Oakdale: two children, Judy Kinney and her husband Wayne of Oakdale and Effie Campbell of New Athens; a daughter-in-law, Gertie Fuqua of Oakdale; eight grandchildren, Scotty (Missy) Fuqua of Oakdale, Jodi (Tim) Alfeldt of Aurora, CO, Kristy (Chuck) Meier of Broken Arrow, OK, Tonia (Perry) Nuernberger of Alton, Tara (Brian) Moore of Birmingham, AL, Clay Kinney of Edwardsville, Erin (Brad) Petchulat of Smithton and Evan (Jaimie) Ruffino of Belleville;  13 great grandchildren, Keaton and Konner Fuqua, Meagan and Drew Alfeldt, Jaxon, Xander, Kingston and Roman Moore, Claire and Olivia Petchulat and Griffin, Gemma and Lola Sue Ruffino; a brother, Charles Ray Thompson of Oakdale; a brother-in-law, Gene Bube; numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hayward and John Fuqua; four sisters, Imogene Rankin, Violet Clark, Betty Brammeier and Mary Lou Bube; a son, Arthur “Archie” Fuqua; a son-in-law, Gary Campbell and one great grandchild, Ezra Moore.
Funeral services will be held at the Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa, IL on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10 AM with Rev. Jim Ryan officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in Oakdale, IL.  Military gravesite rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #110.
Friends may call at the Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa on Sunday from 5 PM until 7 PM and on Monday from 9 AM until the service hour.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Marissa Presbyterian Church or the SSM Hospice of Mt. Vernon and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
