Imogene E. Koelling

Mrs. Imogene E. Koelling, of rural Hoyleton, departed this life on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 9:48 PM at Carlyle Healthcare Center.  She had obtained the age of 79 years, 7 months and 6 days.

Imogene “Imy” was born on January 31, 1939 on the Michael farm in Hoffman, the daughter of Rudolph and Esther (Kroeger) Michael. Imy was united in marriage to Roger Koelling on October 19, 1958 at Trinity in Hoffman, and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2013.

Imy graduated from Carlyle High School in 1957, then worked in the office of the Hollywood Candy Co. until 1961.  Imy worked tirelessly on the Koelling family farm alongside her beloved husband.  She also drove a school bus for 15 years for the Hoyleton School District. She was known for keeping a tidy bus and for making handmade gifts for her “bus kids” at Christmas.  Imy was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton, where she served on the Ladies Aid as an officer and pianist and played in the chime choir. As a steadfast blood donor, Imy gave a total of 12 gallons of blood.

Imogene had many talents and interests.  She was an expert seamstress, who enjoyed making clothes for herself and family, including creative Halloween costumes for her grandchildren.  She also created dozens of quilts, some of which were auctioned off at the Hoyleton Hofbraufest.  Imy also was well known for her homemade pies and angel food cakes, as well as an impressive stand of sweet corn every year. Throughout it all, she cherished family togetherness and loved attending her grandchildren’s events.

Left to mourn her passing are three children; Dennis and wife Jackie of Bartelso; Lisa Quick and husband James of Cedarburg, WI; James and wife Jessica of Hoyleton; five grandchildren; Zachary Koelling of Nashville, Emily Koelling of Lynchburg, VA and special friend Josh Turner, Lauren Hoerchner and husband Jason of Sierra Madre, CA, Jonathan Quick of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jaymie Koelling of Hoyleton; three stepgrandchildren; Jaysie Heyduck and husband George of Centralia, Jayda Bower, and Jaylyn Bower, all of Nashville; one brother-in-law, Bill Criley; nephews, nieces, and many friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Imogene was preceded in death by parents-in-law Herbert and Mabel Koelling, sisters Anita Criley and Melba Kellermann, brothers Ralph Michael and Dwight Michael, brother-in-law Gene Kellermann, sister-in-law Arleen Michael, and nephews Kevin Kellermann and Grant Kellermann.
