Four Hornettes Named All-Conference
After capping off one of the best seasons in school history, four members of the Nashville Hornettes Volleyball team were named All-Conference this past week. Twelve athletes were named All-Conference in the Mississippi Division. Nashville’s four All-Conference selections were the most in the Mississippi Division. Pinckneyville had three All-Conference Selections. DuQuoin had two, and Carterville, Anna-Jonesboro, and Sparta each had one apiece.
The Hornettes finished with a record of 32-10 this season, and finished fourth in IHSA Class 2A. Nashville finished with a 9-1 record in conference play, tied with Pinckneyville. The Hornettes also won the SIRR Preview Tournament back in August with a perfect 5-0 record.
For the Hornettes senior Bailey Melton, as well as a trio of juniors in Sydney Schnitker, Delaney Varel, and Abby Wesselmann were all name All-Conference.
Melton finished tied for the team lead with 47 aces this season. Melton finished tied for second on the team with 143 kills. Melton finished with 66 total blocks which was third on the Hornettes.
Delaney Varel led the team with 218 kills, and 89 total blocks this season.
Schnitker filled up the stat sheet for the Hornettes this season. Schnitker was fourth on the team with 139 kills. Second on the team with 221 service points. Second on the team with 466 digs. Third on the team with 31 aces, and third on the team with 57 assists.
Wesselmann played libero for the Hornettes this season, and led the team with 543 digs in the back row.
The rest of the All-Conference team was Anna-Jonesboro’s Brayden Fitz; Carterville’s Ashlyn Mavigliano; DuQuoin’s Elizabeth Bird and Meryn Gross; Pinckneyville’s Lynlee Lindner, Elaine Shaneyfelt, and Hallie Waggoner; Sparta’s Faith Sroka rounded out the SIRR Mississippi Division All-Conference Team.
