Allan Castleberry

Allan L. Castleberry, 90, of Pell City, Alabama passed away at 10:33 A.M. December 14, 2018 at St. Martin in the Pines in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born February 28, 1928 in Kentucky to the late Albert Lester and Mary Lillian (Edrington) Castleberry. He was married to Imogene Ann Dycus and she precede him in death in 1999.  They were blessed with 43 years of marriage before her passing..

Allan is survived by his sister, Eunice Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee; nephews, Joe Thompson and wife, Janet, Bobby Thompson and wife, Brenda, Johnny Thompson and wife, Barbara, Tommy Thompson and wife, Rosie, David Thompson, Gary Dycus and wife, Trish, Wendell Presley, Larry Presley and wife, Diane, and Darrel Presley; nieces, Pam Haug and husband, Steve, Brenda Calvin and husband, Jeff, Diane Hines and husband, Tony, Barbara Jones, Carolyn Jordan; and Jan Cleotelus and husband, George; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Castleberry was preceded in death by his infant brother, Alvin Dexter Castleberry; two nephews, Charles Dale Van Brocklyn and Marvin “Buddy” Reed; and nieces, Judy Egan and Janet Neidermeier.

Allan was particularly close with his maternal grandparents, Warren Edrington and Minnie and his paternal grandparents, Griff Castleberry and Liza, who all had a special part in raising him.  He graduated from Nashville High School, where he played many sports, especially excelling in baseball.  Allan was a member and strong supporter of Eden West Side Baptist Church in Pell City, Alabama.  He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sargent from 1947 to 1952 in the Korean Conflict.  He worked as a General Foreman for over thirty years for McDonnell Douglas.  He was a caretaker and lived a life of service to others.  Mr. Castleberry was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
