Hornets Win NIT

The Nashville Hornets boys basketball team won their second straight NIT Championship this past week as they defeated Mascoutah in the championship game on Monday night. Mater Dei defeated Central in the third place game. The fifth place game was cancelled after inclement weather pushed the games to Monday. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday.

The Hornets picked up a win in their first game of the tournament as they cruised past Brentwood 60-25.

Brentwood kept the game close in the first, as they only trailed 13-10 after eight minutes of play. The Hornets took over from there. Nashville outscored the Eagles 15-2 in the second quarter to lead 28-12 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Hornets continue to pull further and further away. By the end of the frame, Nashville had built a 50-23 lead over the Eagles.

The fourth quarter did not provide a lot of drama as the Hornets took a 60-25 win.

Three players were in double figures for Nashville as Carson Parker led all scorers with 18 points. Bryce Bultman finished with 16 points, followed by Terry Pelczynski with ten points. Matt Anderson finished with five points, while Tristen Hercules chipped in four points. Jacob Maschhoff scored three points in the win.
