Three Hornettes Named All-Conference

Three members of the Nashville Hornettes girls basketball team were named All-Conference this past week. The Hornettes made it to the Elite Eight this season, compiling a 22-11 record along the way. Nashville finished second in the SIRR Mississippi Division with an 8-2 record. Carterville won the conference with a 9-1 record. The Lady Lions only conference loss, came to Nashville.

Libby Ahlers, Rylee Luechtefeld, and Alyssa Cole were named All-Conference for their play over the 2018-19 season. Nashville and Carterville each tied for the most All-Conference selections with three. Anna-Jonesboro had two players selected. DuQuoin and Pinckneyville each had one player selected. Sparta did not have any players on the All-Conference team.

Ahlers led the Hornettes in a plethora of offensive categories this season. Ahlers led the team with 10.9 points per game, 103 made free throws, shot 73.6% from the charity stripe, and made a team-high 39 three pointers.

Cole was the second leading scorer on the Hornettes this season. Cole averaged 9.1 points per game, and was second on the team with five rebounds per game. Cole led Nashville in assists with 63, and steals with 47.

Luechtefeld was the third leading scorer for Nashville. Luechtefeld scored 7.2 points per game. Luechtefeld was a monster on the boards this year, pulling down 158 defensive rebounds, and 74 offensive rebounds, which led the team. Overall Luechtefeld averaged 7 rebounds per game this season. Luechtefeld also broke the school record with 104 blocks during the year.

The rest of the All-Conference team is: from Carterville, Jeniah Thompson, Abbey Crain, and Megan Barton; from Anna-Jonesboro, Angel Helm and Mikayla Bundren; from DuQuoin, Katie Smith; and from Pinckneyville, Megan Breslin.
