Hornets Win Chester Open Meet

The Nashville Hornets boys track team competed in two meets this past week. The Hornets won the Chester Open meet on March 26, before competing in a home meet on March 28 in which no team scores were kept.

The Hornets dominated the Chester Open Meet on March 26 coming away with a first place team finish. Nashville racked up 211 points, 71 points ahead of second place. Chester finished second with 140 points. Red Bud finished third, followed by Steeleville in fourth, and Waterloo Gibault rounded out the top five. New Athens, and Christ Our Savior also competed at the meet.

Nashville came away with four first place finishes in field events. Isaac Sexe won both the Shot Put and Discus. Tabor Kozuszek came away with a first place finish in the High Jump, and Gavyn Lietz won the Pole Vault.

Three athletes won individual running events. Gavin Love won the 800M Run. Lietz came home first in the 110M High Hurdles. Jackson Aulds won the 300M Hurdles at the meet.

Nashville won three relays at the meet. The 4X800M Relay was won by the team of Love, Bryan Meyer, Caleb Klein, and Kozuszek. Tyson Huge, Derek Baugh, Jace Matecki, and Graham Speedie teamed up to win the 4X400M Relay. Derek Baugh, Daymeon Baugh, Ben Reid, and Kozuszek won the 4X400M Relay to cap off the meet.

The Hornets were back in action on March 28 as they competed in an open meet on the Hornet Track. No team scores were kept at the meet. Nashville did finish first in ten different events.

In the field events, Lietz won both the Pole Vault and the Triple Jump at the meet. Huge won the Long Jump, and Daymeon Baugh won the High Jump.

Lietz also came away with a win in the 110M High Hurdles. Kozuszek was first across the line in the 800M Run. Daymeon Baugh won the 400M Dash. Gavin Love won the 1600M Run.

The Hornets were again strong in the relays as Love, Reid, Kozuszek, and Klein came together to win the 4X800M Relay. Nashville finished off the night with a win in the 4X400M Relay by Huge, Derek Baugh, Reid, and Kozuszek.
