Althoff Named Coach Of The Year

After a year in which he led the Nashville Hornettes to a Regional Championship, and a Sectional Championship, Doug Althoff was named Class 2A Coach of the Year by the Southern Illinois Coaches Association.

The Hornettes finished the season with a 22-11 this season. Nashville won their opening tournament of the season, the NIT. Nashville went a perfect 3-0 in Pool Play, before defeating Collinsville in the Championship game.

There would be ups and downs from there, but the Hornettes found a rhythm in the postseason. The Hornettes cruised past conference rival Pinckneyville on Senior Night, and rode that momentum into the postseason.

Nashville made quick work of their opponents at Regionals. The Hornettes outscored their opponents 92-45 on their way to winning the Trico Regional Championship.

The Hornettes were tested at Sectionals as Nashville found themselves down double digits at the break in their Sectional Semi-Final game against Harrisburg. The Hornettes would then outscored Harrisburg 34-12 after halftime to pick up a 44-34 win. Nashville again found themselves down in the Sectional Championship, but again surmounted a comeback and defeated Althoff 49-40 to win their first Sectional Championship since 2013.

The Hornettes season would end at Super-Sectionals in the Elite Eight. Nashville fell to Teutopolis, a team that lost the State Championship game the next weekend.
