Girls Track Hands Out Awards
The Nashville Hornettes girls track team hosted their end of season awards banquet, this past week. Six athletes received individual awards for their contributions during the season. The Hornetes enjoyed great success this season. Nashville won the Tri-County Invitational, and the Nashville Invitational. The Hornettes finished runner-up at Sectionals and Conference to IHSA Class 1A State Champion DuQuoin.
The Hornettes qualified for State in ten different events. Nashville qualified for the State meet in: the 4X400M Relay, the 200M Dash, the 1600M Run, the 4X200M Relay, the 100M Dash, the 4X800M Relay, the 4X100M Relay, the Shot Put, the Triple Jump, and the High Jump. At the State Track Meet, the 4X200M Relay team won the first State Medal in a running event since 1999.
Destyn Herrington and Jadah Heidel were each named Most Valuable Runner at the awards banquet. Herrington and Heidel both ran in the 4X200M Relay that brought home a state medal. Herringotn and Heidel also ran in the 4X100M Relay as well as the 4X400M Relay.
Carli Hoffman, and Sydney Schnitker were named Most Valuable Field Athletes. Hoffman and Schnitker both qualified for State in their respective events. Hoffman advanced to State in the Shot Put. Schnitker advanced to State in the Triple Jump. Hoffman was the only Hornette athlete to win her event at the Conference meet. Both Hoffman and Schnitker were named All-South this past season.
Halle Rueter and Talanie Kozuszek each received the Most Valuable Rookie Athlete Award. Rueter and Kozuszek both advanced to State in four events. Rueter advanced to State in the 100M Dash, the 200M Dash, the 4X100M Relay, and the 4X200M Relay. Kozuszek qualified for State in the 100M Dash, the 4X100M Relay, the 4X200M Relay, and the 4X400M Relay.
The 4X100M Relay team, the 4X200M Relay team, the 4X800M Relay team, the 4X400M Relay team were all named All-South.
Nashville had a record setting season. Four school records fell during the 2019 season. Rueter, Herrington, Heidel, and Kozuszek broke both the 4X100M Relay and 4X200M Relay records at NCHS. Rueter broke the 100M Dash record. Schnitker broke the Triple Jump record.
