Hornets Cruise To Win Over Sparta

The Nashville Hornets football team rolled to another SIRR Conference Mississippi Division win this past week as they defeated Sparta 53-14. The Hornets are now 5-0 on the season.

This week they will head to Carterville for another conference matchup. Carterville is 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The win over Sparta clinched playoff eligibility for the Hornets. A win over the Lions this Friday will clinch a postseason spot for Nashville for the second straight season.

The Hornets used a huge first half to defeat Sparta. Nashville rushed out to a 47-6 lead in the first half.

Nashville’s offense was unstoppable in the first two quarters of play. The Hornets rushes for 191 yards in the first half alone. Three touchdowns came on the ground in the first half as Jullian Metcalf scored from 15 yards out and one yard out. Like Ehret added a two yard touchdown in the first half.

Nashville also has success through the air. Cole Malawy went 9-15 for 102 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Malawy threw a 23 yards touchdown to Nick Miller, a five yard touchdown to Isaac Turner, and a 16 yard touchdown to Gavin Baldwin. Malawy’s only blemish in the first half was an interception.

The result was never in question in the second half. Nashville would find the end zone again though. Kolten Gajewski round Will Barczewski for a five yard touchdown.

Sparta would score a touchdown in the second half but the Hornets were firmly in control. At the end of the fourth the Hornets held a 53-14 lead.

Metcalf led the team on the ground with 103 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Ehret finished with 38 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Miller carried the ball four times for 48 yards. Conner Gladson rushed for 34 yards, all of which were in the second half.

Through the air, Malawy finished 9-16 for 102 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Gajewski finished 2-3 for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Baldwin led the receiving core with two catches for 34 yards and a touchdown. The ball was spread around as eight players caught a pass in the win. Miller caught only one pass, a 23 yard touchdown. Turner and Barczewski each caught a five yard touchdown in the game, their only catches of the contest. Bryan Meyer caught two passes for 33 yards. Buzz Ritzel caught one pass for 13 yards. Jaxon Goforth finished with 10 yards on two catches. Ehret caught one pass for -6 yard.
