Hornettes Claim Conference Championship

After a one year hiatus, the Nashville Hornettes girls golf team has reclaimed the Southern Illinois River to River Mississippi Division Conference Crown. It is the Hornettes’ eighth conference championship in the last ten years. It is Nashville’s eleventh conference championship since the SIRR was founded in 1993. Nashville leads all SIRR Mississippi Division  schools in Girls Golf conference championships.

The SIRR Girls Golf Conference Tournament took place on September 24 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course. Massac County ran away with the Ohio Division, but the Mississippi Division was a nailbiter. Nashville won the Conference Tournament with a one stroke victory over Anna-Jonesboro.

Nashville finished with a team score of 403, just ahead of Anna-Jonesboro who turned in a 404. Carterville finished third with a score of 415, followed by Pinckneyville in fourth with a score of 420. Sparta carded a 465 and DuQuoin finished with a score of 481.

Ali Lamb of Carterville was the Individual Conference Champion for the Mississippi Division with a score of 82. Three Hornettes were named All-Conference and earned medals. Rylee White finished second overall in the Mississippi Division with a score of 95. Sydney Gordon finished fifth overall with a score of 98. Ryan Stiegman finished seventh overall with a score of 102. The rest of the All-Conference medal winners were: Marlee Smith of Anna-Jonesboro was third overall. Kally Mayo of Pinckneyville was fourth overall. Sydnie Ralls of Anna-Jonesboro was sixth overall. Breyonna Shandi of Pinckneyville was eighth overall. Madison Campbell of Carterville was tenth overall, and Mary Jane Cavaness of Anna-Jonesboro was tenth overall.

Grace Ruehl shot a 108, followed by Emily Guest with a 119. Brooklyne Luessenheide shot a 123.

The last home match for the Hornettes took place on September 25. The Hornettes honored their two seniors White and Gordon after the match. The Hornettes took on Freeburg and Odin at Nashville Municipal Golf Course. The Hornettes closed out the home slate with a win as Nashville finished with a score of 186, well ahead of Freeburg who was second in the match. Freeburg finished with a score of 212 followed by Odin with a score of 279.

Gordon led Nashville and was the medalist at the event as she finished with a 72. White finished with a 46 followed by Stiegman with a 48. Ruehl finished with a 50. Lussenheide shot a 51. Faith Frerker and Guest each finished with a 59. Sophie White shot a 73.
