College Representative Visits at NCHS: Students who are interested in visiting with college representatives should come to the Counseling Office to sign up.  Currently scheduled college representative visits:

College Greenlight: College Greenlight is a free resource for any student who is beginning their college and/or financial aid search.  It helps students discover, research, and build relationships with the colleges and universities that will assist them in becoming successful.  It has an easily searchable database filled with thousands of scholarships, grants, and merit-aid opportunities.  Students can receive a customized list of the awards best suited to their academic, social, and community accomplishments.  Visit: www.collegegreenlight.com  to create an account.

Chicago Architecture/Design College & Career Day:  Any student interested in learning about careers in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and construction management is invited.  It will take place on Saturday, October 5 at Hermann Hall on the Illinois Institute of Technology campus.  For more information, visit www.chicagocareerday.org

College Day at Western Illinois University: High school students and their families are invited to the 3rd Annual College of Arts and Sciences’ College Day at the Macomb Campus of Western Illinois University on Friday, October 18 from 8:30am to 3:00pm.  There will be an opportunity for high school students and families to attend classes in multiple subjects, take a campus tour, meet faculty and students, and learn how to launch their careers.  The programs participating are: Nursing, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, English, Physics, Geology, Geography/GIS, Meteorology, Mathematics, History, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Foreign Languages.  A complete schedule of the day’s events can be found at bit.ly/2VildLj.  Students should RSVP as soon as possible at bit.ly/2VildLj.

Transition Visits:  There are excellent opportunities in the next months for students to make transition visits.  Students interested in technical schools, junior colleges, armed services, universities, etc.. should consider the following days when Nashville High School is not in session or dismisses early:  Friday, August 30 (11:30 Dismissal – Teacher In-Service);  Monday, October 14 (No School – Columbus Day);  Friday, October 18 (No School);  Friday, November 8 (11:30 Dismissal – Teacher In-Service); Monday, November 11 (No School – Veteran’s Day), Wednesday, November 27 (No School – Teacher Institute). If you need assistance scheduling a visit, please contact Mrs. Maschhoff or Mrs. Luessenheide in the Counseling Office.

All students are encouraged to make transition visits.  It is never too early to make visits, but juniors and seniors should especially take advantage of these days.  As a reminder, if students are going to miss any school time for visits, they MUST fill out a “Request to Visit” form and return it to the Counseling Office at least two days in advance of the visit.  “Request to Visit” forms may be obtained in the Counseling Office or from the school website on the Counseling Office page.

College Application Month: October is College Application Month!  Seniors are encouraged to start research colleges they are interested in to learn about the application process (including application fees and application essays), application deadlines, majors offered, tuition, and financial aid.

College Fairs: As we encourage students to apply early to college, we also encourage parents and students to be educated about their decisions.  An excellent avenue to find out about various colleges is a college fair.  Listed below are various college fairs in our region.

ACT Testing Dates:  The next ACT test with open registration is October 26.  Registration is due by September 20.  Additional ACT testing dates for the year are December 14, February 8, April 4, June 13, and July 8.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.

SAT Testing Dates:  The next SAT test is October 6.  Registration is due by September 6.  Additional SAT testing dates for the year are November 2, December 7, March 14, May 2, and June 6.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.collegeboard.org.  Our high school code is 143-110.
