Hornettes Tame Lady Lions

The Hornette volleyball team played host to Carterville Thursday at Assembly Hall. Needless to say, Nashville made quick work of the Lions. They won their first set 25-15, and again walked away victorious in the second set with a 25-18 win.

This was a team effort from the Hornettes as several players contributed for big nights. Abby Wesselman finished the match with fourteen digs. Abby Grobowski contributed 11 assists. Hazel Konkel tacked on with ten service points. Delaney Konkel had nine kills and three blocks. The JV and freshman teams also won their matches, 

The JV team finished Carterville in two sets, winning the first one 25-23 and the second one 25-16. The freshman lost their first set 26-24, but came back to take the last two, 25-15 and 15-11, to take the match. The Hornettes will continue their regular season this week as they travel to Pinckneyville on Tuesday. They will return to Assembly Hall on Thursday to play host to Duqoin for their senior night before traveling to Freeburg Saturday for the Monster Mash Tournament.

The home win marked the Hornettes’ 20th win this season.

The Hornettes will play in the Sectional beginning Oct. 29 at Trico. They have been named the two seed and will play the winner of the Chester and Trico game. Pinkneyville has been named the one seed.
