Kaskaskia College Foundation Scholarships: Kaskaskia College representatives will be here on November 7th during BEST (8:00 AM-9:00 AM.) They will show students how to apply for the KC Foundation Scholarships.  All seniors interested in attending KC should attend this workshop.

No Application Fee for SIUC: The application for SIUC is free through November 1.  Students can apply at admissions.siu.edu/apply/ and enter the code, FREEAPP, before submitting their application.

Foundation After School College: Kaskaskia College is offering college courses to high school students for college credit during the spring semester.  Tuition and fees are waived.  The spring Foundation After School College schedule and registration form are available at: https://www.kaskaskia.edu/academics/ college-for-high-school-students/foundation-after-school-college/   

Going Merry Scholarship Search: Going Merry (www.goingmerry.com) is a great new scholarship website.  It makes scholarship application easier.  Students can sign up at:  https://www.goingmerry.com/c/tesham-8nr3d  Going Merry is completely different from the older scholarship search engines.  It allows for:

  Matching – Once students fill out their profile, they are automatically matched with scholarships they are most eligible for.

  Direct Applications – Students can apply directly to multiple scholarships from the website.  They never need to leave the site.

• Autofilled Applications – All of the information from students’ profiles are autofilled into each application, thus saving time.

  Estimated Application Times – Every scholarship has estimated application time to help students prioritize them.

  Scholarships Grouped By Essay Topics – Scholarships are grouped by common essay topics so students can minimize the number of essays they have to write

College Greenlight: College Greenlight is a free resource for any student who is beginning their college and/or financial aid search.  It helps students discover, research, and build relationships with the colleges and universities that will assist them in becoming successful.  It has an easily searchable database filled with thousands of scholarships, grants, and merit-aid opportunities.  Students can receive a customized list of the awards best suited to their academic, social, and community accomplishments.  Visit: www.collegegreenlight.com  to create an account.

College Day at Western Illinois University: High school students and their families are invited to the 3rd Annual College of Arts and Sciences’ College Day at the Macomb Campus of Western Illinois University on Friday, October 18 from 8:30am to 3:00pm.  There will be an opportunity for high school students and families to attend classes in multiple subjects, take a campus tour, meet faculty and students, and learn how to launch their careers.  The programs participating are: Nursing, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, English, Physics, Geology, Geography/GIS, Meteorology, Mathematics, History, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Foreign Languages.  A complete schedule of the day’s events can be found at bit.ly/2VildLj.  Students should RSVP as soon as possible at bit.ly/2VildLj.

College Fairs: As we encourage students to apply early to college, we also encourage parents and students to be educated about their decisions.  An excellent avenue to find out about various colleges is a college fair.  Listed below are various college fairs in our region.

ACT Testing Dates:  The next ACT test with open registration is December 14.  Registration is due by November 8.  Additional ACT testing dates for the year are February 8, April 4, June 13, and July 8.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.

SAT Testing Dates:  The next SAT test is December 7.  Late registration is due by November 8.  Additional SAT testing dates for the year are December 7, March 14, May 2, and June 6.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.collegeboard.org.  Our high school code is 143-110.
